Canal Place is delighted to have the band performing at the Canal Place Festival Grounds on Saturday, August 22, 2020. The band will begin set up at 6pm and the “baton will drop” at approximately 6:30 pm. We hope you will come and join in on this FREE entertainment on Saturday. Remember to bring your chairs and blankets for seating, and don’t forget to follow current Maryland Covid-19 mandates by keeping social distances and wear a mask.
Founded in 1877 the Frostburg Arion Band is one of the United States’ longest continuously functioning concert bands. The band takes its name from the Ancient Greek musician Arion – the “jolly mon” of Corinth who also is credited with inventing the lyre. The band is composed mainly of amateur instrumentalists of all ages and skill levels, from the city of Frostburg and the surrounding areas. These volunteer community members carry on the long tradition of musical entertainment performing a mixture of marches, medleys and old favorites at various locations throughout the year. For this performance they hope to play a mix of their favorite marches from Sousa, Fillmore, a fun Blues piece, a medley from the Music Man, and the ever popular Stars and Stripes.
In case of stormy weather this event will be cancelled.
