Introduction to AFNHA

A letter from AFNHA Executive Director Phyllis Baxter:

Hi Friends,

Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area focuses on conservation, community development, cultural heritage and tourism within our 18 county region of the highlands of western Maryland and West Virginia. Designated as a National Heritage Area in 2019, we are now in the midst of Management Planning to guide our future priorities. We invite you to learn more about AFNHA, and join your voice in planning for this future. See our website at www.appalachianforestnha.org

For anyone who is not very familiar with AFNHA or what National Heritage Area designation means, or if you just want a refresher, join us for an “AFNHA 101” virtual presentation at any of the three upcoming dates and times. These will be the same session repeated, so pick the one that works best for you. The presentation will be less than a half hour, plus we’ll try to answer your questions.

  • Friday, April 30 — 11:30 am – AFNHA 101
  • Mon, May 3 — 6 pm – AFNHA 101
  • Thurs, May 13 — 3 pm – AFNHA 101

AND we invite you to our second Management Planning Public Meeting & Stakeholders Meet

  • Monday, May 17 – 10am to noon – Management Planning Public Meeting

During this meeting, our Planning Consultants will share what they have heard about AFNHA over the last year, and engage in some discussion with you to help move the planning forward to next steps. We will also include in this time the AFNHA Annual Stakeholders meeting with an update on the last year, and a quick business meeting for Board elections. Please plan to attend this meeting, if you can.

The link for ALL of these April/May meetings is the same, and no preregistration is needed.

AFNHA is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
